Summary
In this interactive workshop, we will first demonstrate how to obtain a thorough dietary history using readily available tools from owners of dogs and cats with chronic enteropathies. We will then discuss the common nutrient classes that are important to consider (protein, fat, fiber, carbohydrate) when selecting diets for chronic enteropathy patients. We will use a case based approach to compare different diet approaches with different presentations of patients. We will discuss how to perform some basic nutritional calculations that will then make it easier to compare diets across brands and will discuss what can and cannot be obtained from the guaranteed analysis and how to use the product guide if available to you.

Learning Objectives
• Understand how to use online tools to acquire a dietary history and how to select an appropriate diet based on the animal-specific factors and clinical signs of the patient.
• Perform basic nutritional calculations including the following: Convert AF% to energy basis Convert energy basis to % ME for calorie-provided macronutrients Calculate carbohydrate contribution using guaranteed analysis
• Explain the limitations of crude fiber analysis
