Peña Gimenez, Teresa

Prof. Peña graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in Veterinary Medicine in 1987 and obtained a PhD degree by the same university in 1993 with an experimental study in penetrating corneal grafts in dogs. She completed the ECVO ophthalmology residence in a non-conforming program at North Carolina State University. Since 1988 she has worked in the Medicine and Surgery Department of the Veterinary School (UAB) and nowadays she is associate professor for ophthalmology and surgery, and head of the Ophthalmology service at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (FHCV-UAB). Shehas been a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ECVO) since 1999, ECVO Exam Committee member from 2002-2010 and Credentials Committee member since 2010 (Chair of the committee since 2016). She was on theEuropean Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ESVO) board (Treasurer from 1999 to 2006, Vicepresident from 2006 to 2007 and President from 2007 to 2009). Passionate about teaching, she co-directs a postgraduate course in veterinary ophthalmology, to obtain an intermediate degree, as well as residency programs to be part of the ECVO. Her work and research are devoted to ophthalmology, especially in corneal pathology and surgery, and to the uveitis and ocular lesions caused by infectious diseases.
