I attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania and then completed a small animal medicine/surgery internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. After that I was in small practice for about 3 years. At this point it was apparent that I was better suited to a career in anatomic pathology. After a 5 year stint at the University of California, Davis I completed my pathology residency and received a Ph.D. in Comparative Pathology. My first job in academia has remained my only job and I am still at North Carolina State University. My research/diagnostic interests focus on diseases of the liver, ranging from naturally occurring diseases to viral hepatitis and toxicologic pathology.
