Prof. Donato Traversa graduated with a DVM in 1999 and a PhD in 2002 at the University of Bari, (Italy). In 2004 he received a European Young Scientist Award from the European Federation of Parasitologists and in 2006 the de facto Diploma from the European College of Veterinary Parasitology (DipEVPC). As an Associate Professor of Veterinary Parasitology and Animal Parasitic Diseases at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Teramo (Italy), since 2002, has supervised several undergraduate students as the leader of the course of Animal Parasitic Diseases, along with a dozen of intramural and extramural PhD students. The main thrust of his research relies on extra-intestinal and intestinal nematodes of dogs, cats and horses, and water-borne zoonotic protozoa, with a focus on epidemiology, diagnosis, drug resistance and efficacy of parasiticides.
Prof. Traversa has been scientific responsible for various international and national scientific projects, is peer reviewer for about 50 International Scientific Journals on Medical Sciences, Veterinary Parasitology and Molecular Biology, and Associate Editor for the Parasitology section of the Open Access Journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science. He has published more than 400 scientific contributes, 170 of which on international peer reviewed journals, and has given about 90 talks and presentations at conferences.
