Martina graduated with honours from the University of Pisa in 2004 and obtained the degree of Specialist in Small Animal Clinics and Pathology (Haematology), with honours, in 2007, while working in general practice. She then moved to Barcelona to undertake an official 18-month internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. She also obtained a Master Degree in Veterinary Research at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona in 2008 with a project about markers of sepsis in foals. From July 2009 to June 2012 she completed a residency in Veterinary Clinical Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania and she sat and passed the certifying exam of the American College of Veterinary Pathology in September 2012. From January to December 2013 she has worked as clinical pathologist for the laboratory CTDS Ltd, UK, and she then joined the University of Liverpool in January 2014 where she currently covers the role of Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pathology. She is a RCVS recognized Specialist in Veterinary Clinical Pathology. She is author and co-author of scientific articles in international journals and has contributed to clinical pathology manuals. She is a member of the European and American Societies of Veterinary Clinical Pathology and the European Canine Lymphoma Network. Her major interests are cytopathology and haematopathology.
